Day 22 Ambriz - Mussulo

This day turned to be probably our luckiest day of the whole trip! In the morning we had great breakfast, coffee, had a real shower! And went to town Musserra because Senior Antonio had to go there for some business, so we followed his truck:

When we went back to their home, and were about to leave and head towards Luanda,  when our hosts insisted we should stay for a lunch and leave after… We had crayfish with homemade mayonnaise for starter and meat for lunch:

During the lunch we were invited to stay in Luanda with Mr Antonio and his family, in Mussulo the island close to Luanda! To spend New Year with them! So after the lunch we drove to Luanda together! Lots of fun with Ana George in the car :)))

We went to the port, parked our car, disconnected the fridge, took some clothes and went to embark:

Arrived at the house which was few metres from the sea:

We had our own room with air conditioner:)
Dinner with Antonio's family and Mr Xico and his family, who lives next door, the table grew bigger and bigger!

Day 21 Luvaka - Ambriz

We woke up 5 am and were on the road. We drove towards the broken bridge but we didn't get to it as it started to rain few drops so we were worried about the road condition as we had a long way till M'Banza Congo.

So we headed to N'Zeto and then South towards Luanda. Had some delicious road food: peru (turkey): At the markets people are very friendly and loves to chat with you:)

We went to Turtle beach, spree beautiful place, but we didn't camp there because it was too early:

We drove to Ambriz, some places there was lots of water on road:

We got to the place called "deserted beach" on our tracks for Africa:

And there! We went for a swim, relaxed and were thinking about camping on the beach. And we were so lucky! Because we met Portuguese people and were invited to their house to camp! There was Mr Antonio and his wife Florinda that live in Ambriz and another Mr Antonio with his family - wife Antonieta and daughter Ana George that came to visit them but they live in Luanda! And! We were invited for dinner as well! We were very happy for the invite! So we drove to their house and after that we drove all together to a nearby lake to see flamingos. At the lake the bridge was broken:

So we turned back and saw minibus stuck on the side of the road, Stephane pulled them out, here is the video:

Then we went back to the house and had fantastic dinner. Missis Florinda was preparing chorizo:

Two misters Antonio's who invited us:

After long and delicious dinner we went to bed... We felt spoiled and happy :)))

Day 20 Mucula Beach - Luvaka

This morning we noticed we lost our front number plate after going through all the water yesterday. We decided to go to the city called M'Banza Congo where would be much of a Congo influence. The road was good tar road:

Some roadblocks where policeman was too lazy to open us the road until he finished his soup:

In M'Banza Congo we found out diesel went up from 50 to 60 kwanzas (0.6 USD), so we filled up. On 2 maps we saw that there was road leading to Uige through Madimba but this road was not on Tracks4Africa on our GPS, so we decided to go and check out that road anyways of course :) So we were driving nice gravel road, through the hills, enjoying the tropical scenery.

And then suddenly!!! The road just disappeared….. The wide gravel road just turned into bush and we had to turn back to M'Banza Congo and find another road.

To get from M'Banza Congo to Uige there are two roads - one that goes through N'Zeto and another that goes North close to the border with DRC and then turns East and then South to Uige. We were told not to take the second one because that could take us days in case of rain. We chose the second one and headed towards Quimba. We could see that there hasn't been any rain for a while because the forest was covered with red dust which hasn't been washed away:

Then we saw van stuck  on the middle of the road, we pulled him out. We drove until it got dark and we were looking for a place to camp.

This was different from the previous days in Angola where you can pull over and camp next to the beach. The only thing here is rainforest and villages. So we had to find a place to sleep in a village. We were not very happy with this idea because it was festive time and lots of people were drunk and asked us money and whiskey. But we had no choice. So we got until village Luvaka and asked for a chief of town. We had to speak to 6 different people to be able to camp. Police came, checked us out. At the end camped ourselves outside municipal building. We found out that we can not continue driving to Uige because the bridge was broken few km down the road. So we had to turn back to M'Banza Congo tomorrow. Night was tuff as there was disco nearby blasting music on full. After the disco a crazy woman was screaming for hours…

Day 19 Sonaki Camp - Mucula Beach

We drove to Soyo to fill up with diesel. And after that we headed to the Congo River more inland. The road towards Sumbe near Congo River is red sand, dense bush on the sides, twos poor road and humidity 80 percent at 8 o'clock in the morning. In few places the road was very good, chinese been there with a grader :) Sumbe is a small village with a petrol station, we asked old man directions to Benza village which turned out to be even smaller twospoor road.

Congo River in Sumbe:

In Benza village there are few houses and bars with load music everywhere. It was Christmas and there were parties everywhere from 7 o'clock in the morning.

Road to Benza:

After Benza we headed towards Pedra do Feitico. The road became even smaller, with lots of water. Small decorated villages with people partying, we had to lift decorations to get through. Then we arrived to Pedra do Feitico after driving 40 kilometres which took us an hour and a half. There we were on the banks of the Congo River, people in dugout canoes, fisherman complaining that no fish left in the river.

We had to had a conversation with a chief of police and administrator of the region, to welcome us to the region as no foreigners get until here, it's a dead end and only pedestrians can cross into city of Boma in DRC in a boat. They gave us an official peace of paper saying that if we have any problems the chief is taking care of us.

Congo River opposite side city of Boma, DRC

After that same way back to Benza and then another tiny road towards Quelo through partying villages and shouting Boa Festa! Some kids pointed to us and said Chinese!!! :)
There were some signs warning mines were around:

And tanks:

We got back to our beach camp where we stayed 2 nights ago because there were no other place to camp, just villages around and party people :) We arrived just after dark, set up camp, cooked some dinner, few glasses of wine and to bed.
